About Cia Gwetu Meru…

Welcome here. This blog is all about Meru County- bringing you the oldest of happenings, capturing what is current, and walking with Meru County to the future. What are your experiences of I am from Meru especially among other tribes brought? Oh!  So, you are a  Baite? Are you one of the citizens of the veve nation? You are the ones who swear by your mother’s names to cut someone? Mmeru akikasirika ana-vibrate kama Nokia 3310! Mara Kiraitu oh, Linturi mmm! Munya eh! Cut the ridicule; as much as there are aspects truths, the exaggerations are puffed up and sometimes we get personal about it.

Meru County is better than this for an introduction right? We have a fast growing economy, rapidly developing towns, state-of-the art real estate developments, significantly good road networks, internationally recognized higher education institutions, scholars, inviting tourist attractions, Non-Governmental Organizations, year round- full- food –basket, exceptionally talented young people and a strong political arena.
Meru National Park-So far, yet so near, the natural beauty of Meru County is luring!
Like the Kikuyu, Embu and Kamba, Ameru are among the Kenyans who took part in the bloody Mau Mau uprising against the British colonialization. We cannot also fail to recognize the likes of Mzee Jackson Angaine, the first Land and Settlement minister in 1963. Jackson Kalweo the 1992 Igembe South MP and former Cabinet minister and Bernard Mate who was among the first Africans to be elected to the Kenya Legislative Council.

You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses" Ziggy.

We are not all rosy; I have not heard of a single place on earth that is. We are number three known for Female Genital Mutilation. Wife battering has just started to fade off. Our youth have been hopeless; they did not get education-willingly or unwillingly. Miraa has been our blessing and curse. It’s good side is beautiful and cherished. Nevertheless, it’s the source of nearly all social evils especially in Igembe which produces virgin and natural twigs.

It has never been more serious than when the rubber hits the road while transporting the green gold
Meru is Baite and that is us. We don’t kick the bush. We talk and our accent tells it all. Probox are a serious means of transport in Meru for humans, animals and plants-miraa mostly, and for some reasons they are white. Nkatha and Nkirote (women) are beautiful lasses inside-out; they make the best wives. In fact they come with 10-20 year warranty! I wonder if they are Samsung appliances. We have our council of elders (Njuri Ncheke or Kiama) old men of immense wisdom, knowledgeable and acceptable personal behaviour that are all good for the community. These men are endowed with supernatural powers to bless and curse (by whom), and women?

A traditional young Meru couple; whoever came up with clothes and makeup  in the nae of beauty and comfort!
We are diverse- we have our sub-tribes and neighbors. We have our roots (origin) beliefs, culture, customs and traditions. We are one county, with different religious backgrounds. We have our different political affiliations and opinions. We have our positives, as well as negatives- aren’t these natural? Meru is beautiful and wonderful-we are loving, welcoming and peaceful with so much to offer ourselves and entire world. Njuuni bigwe Cia Gwetu Meru na mwari oo Kimeru Glory Muturia kinyua
